Content That Sells Kit

An excerpt from Chapter 1: Content that sells starts with trust
Why likes are not sales
A post can get 300 likes and zero orders. That is not bad luck. It usually means the content did one job, getting attention, and skipped the others. People liked it, then scrolled on, because nothing told them why to trust you, why they need it now, or where to buy it.
Buyers in Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana have been burned before. They have paid for a dress that arrived looking nothing like the photo. They have sent money to a page that went quiet. So before they pay you, they look for signs: real photos, real customers, a real person behind the brand, and an easy, safe way to pay.
Your content is where they look for those signs.
The four jobs your content does
Every piece of content should do one of four jobs. A healthy month mixes all four.
| Job | What it does | Examples | Share of your month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reach | Gets you in front of new people | Trend reels, tips, polls, shareable carousels | About 30% |
| Trust | Shows you are real and reliable | Reviews, behind the scenes, founder story, packing orders | About 30% |
| Desire | Makes them want the product | Product in use, close-ups, before and after, styling | About 20% |
| Action | Tells them how to buy now | New drops, limited stock, offers, gift guides | About 20% |
Most brands we audit post almost only Desire content: pretty product photos. That is why the likes do not convert. There is not enough Trust to make a stranger pay, and not enough Action to tell them how.
Example: Akinyi sells shea body butter at KES 1,800. For three months she posted only product photos. She then added two trust posts a week (customer voice notes turned into text graphics, and a reel of her mixing a batch) and one clear action post with a link. Her orders from Instagram roughly doubled in six weeks. Same product, same followers, different mix.
Every piece points somewhere
Here is the rule that changes everything: every post, reel and story ends with one clear next step. Not "DM for price". A step that leads to a page where they can see the price and pay.
There are only two good next steps. Choosing the right one for each post is what separates content that sells from content that just looks nice...
