When a buyer searches for what you sell, they are most likely holding a phone. How your store shows up there decides whether they find you at all.

What the data says

71.3% of respondents in a Communications Authority of Kenya survey said they use their phones to access e-commerce platforms, reports Startup Kenya (October 2026).

What it means for founders

Search engines judge your store largely by how it works on mobile. A store built for a laptop screen can struggle to be found, and struggle to sell when it is.

  • Does your store load and read well on a small screen?
  • Do your product titles use the words buyers actually search?
  • Can a buyer find your contact details and location quickly?
Be found where your buyers already are: on their phones.
