Small-Budget Boost Guide

You boosted a post. You got likes. Did you get sales? This guide makes sure you always know the answer.

Most small brands boost on Instagram and Facebook without tracking a single sale back to the spend. The Small-Budget Boost Guide gives you a simple, tested way to promote the posts that already sell, starting from KES 500 a day, and to see exactly what each shilling brought back.

  • Know when not to spend, and save money before you start
  • Pick the right post using saves, shares, DMs and link taps, not likes
  • Track every sale with campaign keywords, simple links and one checkout question
  • Work out cost per sale and return on spend with clear KES examples
  • Follow a 14-day test plan, scaling rules and a 20-minute weekly review

Includes the Boost Tracker spreadsheet with the formulas built in.

Who it's for: founders of fashion, beauty, home, food and craft brands who sell on Instagram and WhatsApp, have a small budget, and want every boost to earn its place.

Chapter 1: When not to spend

Boosting a post does one thing. It shows that post to more people. It does not fix a weak product, a slow reply, or a confusing price. If those problems exist, a boost makes them louder and more expensive.

So before you spend, check the basics.

The five reasons to wait

1. You cannot reply fast. If DMs sit for six hours, paid traffic will go cold. If you have nobody to cover replies during the boost, wait until you do.

2. You do not have stock. Boosting a product you have three of is a waste. You will sell out on day one and spend the next thirteen days paying for "Is this still available?" messages. Have enough units to cover at least two weeks of better sales.

3. Your margin is too thin. If you make KES 300 profit on a KES 1,500 item, there is very little room to pay for a sale. The full guide shows you exactly where your limit sits.

4. Nothing sells organically yet. If no post has ever produced a sale without paid help, you do not yet know what your audience wants. Paid reach will not tell you. Fix the offer and the content first.

5. You cannot tell where sales come from. If you do not set up tracking, you will finish the boost with a number for spend and a guess for results. That is how most founders lose money on boosts. They are not unlucky. They are blind.

A quick readiness check

  • Someone can reply to DMs within 30 minutes during the boost hours
  • You have stock for at least 14 days of higher sales
  • You know your profit per sale on the product you will promote
  • At least one post in the last 60 days produced a sale with no paid help
  • You have a way to ask every buyer where they found you

If you ticked all five, you are ready. If you missed one or two, fix them this week. It costs nothing and it protects every shilling you spend later.

What a boost cannot do

The platform will report reach, taps and messages. It will not tell you who paid you on M-Pesa three days later, after seeing your reel twice and asking a friend.

That gap is where most boost budgets disappear. In the next chapters, you will learn the three simple habits that close it, so that after your first 14-day test you will know, in shillings, exactly what one sale costs you...
